Evolution, Intelligent Design & Creation are Responsible for our Existence

What exactly does the Urantia Book say about how everything came to be?  Well, you'll be happy to know that you really can have it both ways, or as you'll see in this case, all three ways. 

According to the Urantia Book, the entire Universe was created by God (Creator and Designer) through a process of evolution which has been periodically guided by the Creator. 

Intelligent design, creation, evolution and time produced the physical materials and guidance required to sustain life on our planet; from the planting of the life plasm in the planetary waters to the gentle guidance of the Creator.  Gradual development of humans began in earnest about 993,500 years ago; something happened at this point in time which forever changed the course of mammalian history.  There is no missing link - because at this point in history a remarkable set of primitive humans were born.  These primitive humans were capable of strong emotions, like pity, shame, love, hate, revenge and jealousy.  They were curious, adventurous, and capable of verbal communication.  At this point the only intervention by the Creator was to guide them northward to escape the possibility of biologic degradation.  From there, these primitive humans gradually developed into the human race as we know it today.

The stage was thus set for the appearance of the first backboned animals, the fishes. From this fish family there sprang two unique modifications, the frog and the salamander. And it was the frog which began that series of progressive differentiations in animal life that finally culminated in man himself.

This is How we Know there is a Higher Power at Work in the Universe

The sovereignty of God is unlimited; it is the fundamental fact of all creation. The universe was not inevitable. The universe is not an accident, neither is it self-existent. The universe is a work of creation and is therefore wholly subject to the will of the Creator. The will of God is divine truth, living love; therefore are the perfecting creations of the evolutionary universes characterized by goodness--nearness to divinity; by potential evil--remoteness from divinity.

All religious philosophy, sooner or later, arrives at the concept of unified universe rule, of one God. Universe causes cannot be lower than universe effects. The source of the streams of universe life and of the cosmic mind must be above the levels of their manifestation. The human mind cannot be consistently explained in terms of the lower orders of existence. Man's mind can be truly comprehended only by recognizing the reality of higher orders of thought and purposive will. Man as a moral being is inexplicable unless the reality of the Universal Father is acknowledged.

While we can look backwards and learn much about who we are and how we arrived at where we are today, we eventually must conclude that - that which came before all this, before this level of humanity, before this planet, before this universe, was something even greater.  Something greater brought forth our existence, not something smaller.  The mere existence of our universe inspires us to seek this 'something greater'.   

Scientists would tell us that everything is energy.  We know that human energy is quite powerful, think of all that we have done; from perpetuating the human race to landing a man on the Moon and a machine on Mars, we live, we learn, we create, we feel, and we love (hopefully).  God is energy.  He is the 'something even greater' that we seek, all material and spiritual manifestations are derived from this greater source of energy.  This is the source of our energy, it seems only natural that we should seek this source.  The Urantia Book teaches us the path to this source, a 2000 page fascinating, insightful, life-changing book; but if you learn nothing else, know this:  A fragment of God dwells within you, this is as close as you can ever get to God on this planet, recognize this and make progress toward knowing God more fully and this is all that will ever be required of you.  All the rest (love) comes naturally once you begin to sincerely seek and know God, the source of your energy.

People of Faith - People of No Faith - Science, Religion & Philosophy

We can point to what exists, but do we know where what exists came from?  Short Answer:  Not yet. 

When people of faith are criticized for believing that God created the heavens and the earth, is it not equally wise to criticize those who refuse to believe in a God because they don't know where God came from?

Any rationally thinking person must realize that the question of where God came from cannot possibly be answered by one who lives on the earth a mere 100 years - give or take.

Humans are powerful beings - we have the power to decide whether there is a God or not. The evidence points to a God by the mere fact that we exist, while there is no evidence to support the theory that there is no God. The question of where this all began, if not by God, has not yet been satisfactorily answered by any human who has ever lived. That's what's wrong with atheism.

I've been reading a book since last year called the Urantia Book - it combines science, religion, and philosophy in a way never done before. It's over 50 years old, and I think it enhances all religions, including Christianity, but the publishers have never been inclined to market the book because they believe word of mouth is the best way to reach people. I would like to get this book in the hands of every Preacher in America, and every Scientist and Philosopher as well.

Scientists are beginning to realize that there is more to life than material organisms - this is very exciting because now, science will be delving into the spiritual side of life, where I know it will become beautifully obvious that there is a truly majestic purpose behind this thing we call life.

The Urantia Book is a literary masterpiece that combines religion, science, and philosophy and gives us tools for living the best life possible.  The Bible, the Secret, the Course in Miracles, Dawkins, and Darwin have nothing compared to the wealth of secret knowledge, wisdom, and evolutionary history contained in the Urantia Book.   Use your powerful brain for digesting this huge resource - at about 2000 pages it took me three months to read it in my spare time - but it has changed my life, my worldview, and has increased my love and respect for the Creator of the Universe, God, and Jesus the Son. 

Jesus revealed God to man, he revealed the love of God to man, and he revealed what God has in store for those who seek to do his will: a vast universe to explore and enjoy as we make our way to our Maker.  And what of those who seek the will of the flesh and materialism, those who reject God?  According to the Urantia Book, those who reject God simply cease to exist, the soul is simply extinguished.  So, do you want to live forever and meet God, or is this world enough?  There is a fragment of God that dwells within, listen to that still small voice and see for yourself if God's will is more beneficial to you than your own will.  It's not weakness that drives us toward God, it's strength; for it requires tremendous willpower and strength to do the will of God.  The will of God in its simplest explanation means to acknowledge him, and to make progress toward being more like him by developing a majestic and well-balanced personality - and we know that God is a giver, so this gives us an idea of what God's will is right there.  Everything in this world grows, and so should we - it's all part of the wonderful gift of life and personality given to us by our Maker.   

Truth is Revealed Through Rational Behavior

Does God forgive us for our mistakes?   Can we do anything we want as long as we don't hurt anybody else?  Do we need to consider the short term or the long term consequences of our actions? 

Short Answers:  Yes.  No. Yes.

Did you know that a fragment of God dwells within you?  This fragment desires to be a guiding force in your life if you will only listen to that still small voice within.  This fragment of God speaks the truth and is responsible for the consequences.  You are also a driving force in your own life, but if you choose to listen to the wrong voices, or deliberately choose to make mistakes ('sin', if you prefer), you, like God, will be responsible for the consequences. 

Let's consider the consequences of passion.  Two people meet, they have pre-marital unprotected sex, and she gets pregnant.  Was this a mistake?  Is any harm done?  What, are we supposed to stop having sex?  If she doesn't want to have a baby, can't she just get rid of it by aborting it?  If she keeps it, will both parents be there for the next umpteen years?   What would have happened if they both considered the fact that their unprotected pre-marital sex could lead to having a child, or to making the regretful decision of having an abortion?  No one has sex, or shouldn't anyway, with the idea that they'll just have an abortion if they get pregnant.   If they knew they were going to become pregnant, would they have changed their view of this moment of passion?  Probably.  The truth reveals itself through rational behavior.

Now let's consider the idea of marriage and of rational behavior.  Two people meet, fall in love, confirm that they are compatible with each other (eharmony.com is a good thing!), marry, and decide to have a child and/or children.  If we ask similar questions, are the answers similar or different?  Was this a mistake?  No.  Is any harm done?  No.  Do they refrain from sex?  No - they use birth control.  The truth reveals itself through rational behavior. 

All of these types of decisions are made based on at least these three criteria:

1. Animalistic and/or unrestrained behavior
2. Rational Behavior
3. Listening to that fragment of God that dwells within

Whether you read the Bible or the Urantia Book, or many other religious documents, the facts are clear; in the Bible, God tells Cain that 'sin' is crouching at his door and that he must 'master it' - in the Urantia Book, we are told that civilized man progresses when he takes into consideration the enhancement of one's society or group.  You might say it' all about progress, and not the passion of the moment.  While we need to minister or attend to our physical needs and even our desires; we also need to consider the big picture and the long term consequences.  Restraint is not a bad word, but is in fact a necessity if one is to achieve self-mastery.

If you are mentally and physically capable of handling the consequences of irrational or poor choices and you can assure all those affected of a perfect end, then by all means give in to your momentary passions.  But in order for you to come to that conclusion during moments of passion and irrationality, it requires that you think first, and it's entirely possible that you will make a different choice when faced with the reality of the consequences you are about to initiate.  God does indeed forgive our mistakes, before we even ask.  I think he's just hoping that we'll talk to and listen to him before we need to ask for forgiveness for something that cannot be undone.   

Urantia Papers - Part I, II, III, and IV - A Summary of the Urantia Papers

Part I - The Central and Superuniverses

Part I begins by telling us what we already know - that God is the Father of all creation - he is the "first source and center of all things and beings".   But then it goes on to reveal a more personal and loving God.  We learn that a fragment of the Universal Father God dwells within each person who displays the following characteristics:

1. The intellectual capacity for knowing God - God consciousness.
2. The spiritual urge to find God - God seeking.
3. The personality craving to be like God - the wholehearted desire to do the Father's will.  (While we cannot be God - we can be like him by doing his will.)

Part I goes on to describe for us in great detail, the nature of God and God's relation to the universe as well as the individual.  the remaining sections in Part I describe a well organized universe just bustling with activity.  Most of us know of Angels - but there is much, much more:  Divine Counselors, Universal Censors, Perfecter of Wisdom, Mighty Messengers, Archangels, Bright Evening Star, Melchizedeks, Vorondadek Sons, "those without Name & Number", and the Ancient of Days - just to name a few.

Part II - The Local Universe

Part II describes our local universe in great detail.  If you enjoy science, space, Star Trek, and Star Wars; you'll like this section.  It is also here in Part II that we learn of the Lucifer rebellion and why we are not yet settled in 'Light and Life' - a desirable planetary state.

In Part II you will learn how God brought about the creation of the universe and how it is organized.  We live in a progressive system of perfection attainment in which God is fully involved.

Prepare to be shaken up a bit - shock and disbelief may temporarily invade your senses, but if you persist in your majestic purpose and desire to know God more fully, you will be rewarded with a 'peace that passes all understanding'.  You may decide to reject some of the principles of the Urantia Book - but you simply cannot make an intelligent decision about the book unless you know the whole story - we recommend a thorough reading cover to cover.  Skim through the really complicated sections if you wish, but press on until the end, at which time a clearer picture will be revealed.

Part III - The History of Urantia (Earth)

Urantia is the name given to Planet Earth.  This section describes the intelligent process which brought about the gradual development of Planet Urantia and all its inhabitants.  It is said that both Star Trek and Star Wars are loosely based on some of the themes of the Urantia Papers; and after reading these first three sections, you wil probably conclude that this appears to be true.  Two of the most popular, profitable, fascinating, and long running productions of our time tell a story we're longing to hear.  Hear the real story with the pages of the Urantia Book.

In Part III we learn of man's biologic struggle, mind survival and growth, as well as the discovery of the fact that mankind's destiny is now in our own hands - in a general sort of way.  Do you wonder why bad things happen to good people?  do you wonder why life is such a struggle?  Do you wonder how God could allow defects or deficiencies in some people?  do you rage at the heavens and even God himself when natural disasters such as earthquakes, tornadoes, mud slides, and hurricanes bring destruction to our lands and havoc to our lives?  Well wonder no more; this section will reveal how all these events are preceded by definite causes.  you will learn that our experiences in this short life on this unstable - not yet settled planet - have eternal value.

in addition to all this, you will learn how Jesus - known as Christ Michael before he was born as Jesus - has been involved with Planet Urantia from the very beginning.

Part IV - The Life and Teachings of Jesus

Did you know that according to Biblical scholars, the Bible records only 29 days of Jesus' life on earth?  Part IV of the Urantia Papers give us more of Jesus - and who doesn't want to know more about the Son of God?

To be completely forthcoming and straight forward - Jesus did not come to Urantia (Earth) to die for our sins - as if to somehow appease the wrath of God and atone for our guilt.  No.  God is a loving personality and is not vengeful.  God is dignified and just like a good father - would not harm his own children.  We most certainly commited the great sin of putting an innocent man to death - but it was not his purpose to die for our sins, he died because of our sins.  It was not God's will to have Jesus die such a horrific death, and yes, he could have prevented it, but he chose not to.  It was Jesus' will to do the will of the Father.  It was God's will and ultimately the will of the human side of Jesus, that he should live a mortal life, taking the good with the bad, gaining the experience of human understanding to better relate and to understand us.

So why did Jesus come to Urantia then?  To stimulate, as he has done in the past, the realization of God and the relationship (or brotherhood/fellowship) of humankind.

Remember the cross when you are tempted to give up the moral struggles of this world.  Jesus' sufferings on the corss, the laying down of this life, represent his undying love and devotion to the unselfish service of man.  His death gives us the strength to press on.

In Conclusion

There is a new gospel to be shared with the world.  What is this new good news?  The Fatherhood of God and the Brotherhood (fellowship/relationship) of man (man = male and female) - and that salvation of humankind is available to all who exhibit the three characteristics described above and in Part I - those are:

1. Knowing God
2. Seeking God
3. Doing God's will

Resurrection and eternal life are our reward.  This is your salvation.

This is where you come in, Reader.  We hope that you accept this new revelation - the Fifth Epochal Revelation of God to humankind.  Go and tell it on the mountain.  Preach this new gospel as you understand it and to the best of your ability, to the ends of the earth.  Jesus said "You may enter the Kingdom as a child, but the Father requires that you grow up, by grace, to the full stature of spiritual adulthood."

The Supreme Purpose of Life is to develop a Majestic and Well-balanced Personality.
